PROTECT YOUR LANDSCAPE NO MATTER WHAT

Mother nature make wreak havoc on your landscape plants and lawn; whether it’s a drought, excessive precipitation, scalding hot conditions, or bone chilling winds. One of the most detrimental aspects of our Midwestern climate is the fluctuations in temperatures, especially with extreme overnight changes. Indeed, plants are very resilient; however, their coping mechanisms take time build up, so they can certainly benefit from some easy maintenance practices you can perform ahead of time. Remember, prevention is the best medicine.

  1. Hopefully you remembered to add an extra layer of mulch this past fall. If not an additional 1-2” layer of hardwood bark mulch around your plants will protect them from a late spring frost and drought during the summer.
  2. Spring 2015 was extremely wet. Plants thrived with the massive amounts of rain, however excessive moisture breeds fungus. Come in and pick up a bottle of BAYER DISEASE CONTROL in March to help keep your plants healthy.
  3. Turfgrass in Spring 2015 also grew like mad with the excessive rain. However, Kentucky Bluegrass is very shallow rooted which means it cannot store rainwater and nutrients over long periods of time. Lawns will dry up fast and nutrients will not be available causing turf quality to decline in late spring and summer. Download our Andersons Fertilizer Program here to keep your lawn looking great, but remember in a wet season, supplemental fertilizer applications are extremely beneficial.
  4. If we have a hot and dry summer, bugs that affect your lawn will head deeper into the soil in search of water. Grub control in late May, early June is very affective on the first cycle of grubs but remember to apply a second round of insect control (Andersons Duocide) in August to kill any residual insects in your lawn.

* PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON LANDSCAPE SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE TO US AS HORTICULTURAL PROFESSIONALS. THEY CAN BE AFFECTIVE, BUT WE CANNOT OFFER A GUARANTEE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF VARIABLES INVOLVED. *
